CLIMBING MT. EVEREST FOR PARKINSON'S CURE

Summit 4 Stem Cell is a grassroots, volunteer fundraising organization supporting non-embryonic stem cell research conducted by Dr's Jeanne Loring and Melissa Houser at the Center for Regenerative Medicine at the Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla. The source of the stem cells is the patient and not embryos or fetuses and involves the patient's skin cells.

S4SC, as it is known, is organizing a trek to the base camp of Mount Everest as a way to raise awareness, hope and funds. The kickoff training for local Parkinson's patients, family, friends and other spirited adventurers, who will set off on a three-week trekking adventure to Nepal's Mount Everest Base Camp, will happen this Saturday, April 6, starting at 8:30 a.m. in the picnic area right off the Lake Poway recreation area. You're invited to cheer them on. Get more information at summit4stemcell@gmail.com. Here's the video that explains it all:  http://vimeo.com/62629413

GIVING BACK FOR ANIMALS IN NEED

Congratulations to the Escondido Humane Society on another successful Paws in the Park! The event was Sunday, March 24. It was a perfect day at Kit Carson Park, well-attended and well-organized. The best news is they raised $90,400 in support of some 6,000 homeless (but not forever) animals they take care of. The EHS's fundraising pages will remain open for another month if you're able to help. Here's the address: escondidohumanesociety.org. My boy Bear looked snazzy in his new green scarf as we walked the 2.5 mile course. A few photos of the event are included.

POWAY SPIRIT DAY LESS THAN TWO WEEKS AWAY

Are you coming? We have lots to do and need more volunteers. We’ll be spreading mulch, weeding, trimming and performing trail maintenance at several park areas all over town. Please RSVP to me if you haven’t already. SpiritDayBill@gmail.com. Check in between 7:30 a.m. and 8 a.m. at the Boys and Girls Club, 12988 Bowron Rd., where we’ll hand out assignments and then head off to work. Bring gloves and a shovel and sun protection. The day ends at noon with lunch provided by the Elks back at the B&G. It’s a great bonding experience for your church, service or business group. The more of you we have the more we’ll get done. Thanks and we’ll see you on April 13.
