Poway Gives Back: Lacrosse, Abraxas & Senior Center Golf

Find out what you can channel your art skills to help Abraxas High School this weekend.

CLEANUP DAY AT ABRAXAS

The Church at Rancho Bernardo is partnering with the staff and students at Abraxas High School to improve their campus from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 16. Abraxas has minimal parent/community support, resulting in students who desperately need encouragement and positive relationships.

There are three ways you can help:

  • Donate: Individuals and companies are encouraged to donate gift cards for groceries and other needed items, gently-used clothing, computers, weight equipment, etc.
  • Provide long-term relationships as a teacher’s aid, mentor, or help with events like the career fair and grad night.

Golfers are encouraged to raise $250 in personal donations and sponsorships for the center. The deadline for entry is Monday, April 8. RSVP to Bonnie Keenan at bonniekeenan@cox.net or visit the Poway Senior Center at 13094 Civic Center Dr. for forms and payment.

POWAY-SCRIPPS ROTARY AT RONALD McDONALD HOUSE

The Rotary Club of Poway-Scripps fed chicken, rice and a vegetable to 172 people staying at Ronald McDonald House last Thursday evening. The facility provides a place to stay for families with a child being treated at Rady Children's Hospital across the street. They are often too stressed to even think about food and appreciate a hot meal. You don't get the full impact until you have a child or grandchild of your own being treated as I have in the past two weeks.
