Poway Gives Back: Jail Bail, Grad Nite & Mini Golf

Find out how to help local business leaders get out of "jail" for a good cause, and see how you can make Grad Nite great for Poway High seniors this June.

MDA WANTS TO LOCK YOU UP!

You thought it was safe because they turned off the red light cameras. Now somebody else wants to lock you up. Actually, it's for a good cause. If you're a business leader in the Poway community, the Muscular Dystrophy Association wants to put you in their Poway Lock-Up in order to raise “bail,” by encouraging friends, family, co-workers and business contacts to make contributions that will benefit families in San Diego and Imperial Counties living with progressive muscle diseases like MD and ALS. “Bail” is set at $800, which is the amount it takes to send one child to MDA Summer Camp. The goal is to send over 90 kids to Camp Cuyamaca this year for horseback riding, swimming, football and arts and crafts. Lock-Ups are one of MDA's signature fundraising programs. If you're interested in being “locked up” for MDA call Lindsay Southall in the local district office at 858-492-9792 or email lsouthall@mdausa.org.

MINI GOLF FOR GOOD

The Men's Club of Temple Adat Shalom on Pomerado Road at the Poway/Rancho Bernardo border has announced its second annual miniature gold fundraiser, planned for this coming Sept. 29. Again this year they're turning the temple's 5,400-square foot social hall into a 36-hole mini golf course. Each of the 36 holes will be supported by a local business, which will custom-design the hole to suit their personality. Last year Ace Tire created a loop-de-loop using a Michelin Tire, while Ornamental Gardens by Lisa designed a xeriscape. Money raised this year will provide scholarships to youth interested in performing on stage. A small fee will be charged to play. Hole sponsors will have an excellent opportunity to talk about their products and services. If you want to get involved call Rob Weinberg at 858-673-9960 or email rob@marketbuilding.com.

Planning for the 2013 Grad Nite at Poway High is officially underway. The committee is seeking volunteers to staff the event on Thursday, June 13, and to help set it up the week before. They're also looking for businesses willing to underwrite the costs of Grad Nite. This year's theme is “Let The Good Times Roll.” The committee reports they are halfway to what they need in donations and volunteers. To help, and for more information visit powayptsa.org.

POWAY SPIRIT DAY IS THIS SATURDAY!

Are you in? If you can volunteer a few hours on Saturday to help beautify our little City, meet us at the Boys and Girls Club on Bowron Road next to Valley Elementary, starting at 7:30 a.m. We'll get you checked in and sent off to a work location where you'll be spreading mulch, fixing trails and more. Bring a rake, a shovel and some gloves and we'll see you there. Thanks for your Spirit.
