Poway Gives Back: Caroling, PJs & Puppies

See photos of a local caroling tour that helped brighten the day of our seniors.

LIGHTBRIDGE CAROLERS BRING HOLIDAY CHEER

Volunteers and staff of LightBridge Hospice & Palliative Care, in the spirit of the season, sang at two Poway facilities on Dec. 12 including Solaris Senior Living Community on Garden Road and at Gate Manor on Gate Drive. It was all part of a three-day caroling trip around the county to reach hospice patients throughout San Diego. The carolers brought tambourines, treats and gingerbread houses and also took song requests. At least one resident was inspired to get up out of bed and sing along. That's what it's all about!

Students at Discovery Isle Child Development Center, off Ted Williams in Poway, put on chef hats and served a pancake breakfast to family and friends last Tuesday morning at the preschool to kick off their participation in Isabella's Gift drive. The students are collecting new pajamas, slippers and robes destined for residents at Rady Children's Hospital. Additional proceeds collected at the breakfast were also donated.

Isabella's Gift is a charitable foundation whose mission is to help children be as comfortable as possible while being treated for cancer. The foundation was created by the family of Isabella Zouvas, who passed away due to cancer 16 years ago at the age of 4. She was a former student of Discovery Isle Principal Melinda Carvalho. They'll be collecting articles for Isabella's Gift through this Friday at the preschool.

PRESENTS FOR PAWS

Help our four-legged friends at the San Diego Humane Society have a happy holiday. The San Diego County Credit Union is trying to raise $10,000 for the animals during this holiday season. Word is that $25 is the cost of kitten milk replacement for 20 young kittens for a week, $40 is the cost of basic preventative care and $125 is the cost to provide spay or neuter services. Here's where to donate.

In addition, all SDCCU branch locations are collecting new, unwrapped toys to benefit kids at Rady Children's Hospital through this Friday.
