Patriotic Projects for Presidents Day

Make a bright wreath and a yummy dessert!

CRAFT

Find a special place for this project because next week, we will replace it with a new project that can go in the same place!

Picture 1 - Supplies

For today's project, you will need several sheets of red white and blue paper and a star cookie cutter or stencil.

Begin by tracing and cutting out  the stars. I cut about 36 stars by folding the paper in half and cutting multiple stars at once.

Take your stars and lay them out to make a circle or wreath shape.

Begin by adding glue to the points of the star and overlapping them. Then add other stars to fill in blank spaces. Allow your wreath to dry and then hang where everyone can see it.

The official holiday is meant to honor only George Washington, but many people consider President's Day a day to honor both George Washington (born on Feb. 22, 1732) and Abraham Lincoln (born on Feb. 12, 1809).

If the kids want to draw pictures of Washington and Lincoln, or American flags, cut them out and then glue them to the stars, that's a good additional idea.

CONCOCTION

This is a project that may take a little time but it is worth seeing the look on a child's face to know that they did it themselves. I did mine in individual servings but you can do it any way you like. I have used a clear glass bowl and that looks pretty, too.

You will need one red and one blue gelatin package, a large container of whipped topping and some berries (I used blueberries, raspberries and strawberries.

First, you need to follow the directions on the package to make the red and blue gelatin. Put the blue gelatin in the refrigerator until you need it. Pour about 1/3 cup of gelatin into the glasses or serving dish.

Next you will need to carefully add 2 scoops of whipped topping.

Now you need to add your layer of berries.

Allow this to set in the refrigerate for about an hour then add the blue gelatin, more whipped topping and more berries. Finally top it off with whipped topping and you will have a great after school snack or tasty desert for dinner.
