Ah, another rain-drenched weekend. You, however, aren't the Wicked Witch of the West. You won't melt in the rain. There's music to be heard, laughs to be had, and connections to be made!

We’ve got the best bets for you from Feb. 24-27 whether you want to stay close to Poway or take a drive to find even more to do. Check our picks for the places to see and things to do.

BEST BETS, CLOSE TO HOME 

Where/when: Poway Fun Bowl, Poway, 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

Why Go: For the opportunity to meet the movers and shakers behind business in town whether you're an established professional or just starting out. The Chamber of Commerce hosts its monthly mixer, a 21-and-over affair.

Price: $5-15. 

Where/when: Poway Center for the Performing Arts, Poway, 8 p.m. Saturday.

Why Go: A fifties crooner comes back to life courtesy of "Rave On: The Buddy Holly Tribute." Billy McGuigan pays tribute not just to Holly, but also to other stars of the era, like Jerry Lee Lewis and Chuck Berry.

Price: $36-42; tickets for those under 18 are $5 with purchase of an adult ticket.

BEST BETS, A LITTLE FARTHER AFIELD

Where/when: California Center for the Arts, Escondido, 8 p.m. Friday.

Why Go: Long known as one of the top comedy training grounds in the nation, Second City takes its act on the road with the Second City Touring Company, which brings classic skits to the stage.

Price: $20-35.

Where/when: Warwick's, La Jolla, 3 p.m., Saturday.

Why Go: To satisfy your political curiosity. Whether you're a fan or a foe, Tea Party darling Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky, has been riding high since his November election. He arrives to promote his first book.

Price: Must purchase book to meet Paul.

Where/when: Mount Laguna, Julian or Pine Valley, Friday through Sunday.

Why Go: San Diego's rain last weekend meant lots of nice powdery snow for much of the back country. The weather might cooperate again this weekend. So dust off that sled or just put on a good pair of gloves for a nice snowfight. Keep an eye on Ramona Patch for updates on weather and road conditions.
