Janet's Cafe and Deli is Worth the Santee Trip

Overview: Janet's features American fare that is fresh, seasonal and delicious. Only open until 2:30 p.m. (1:30 on Sunday), Janet's is especially packed on the weekends with hungry Santee folks ready for a hearty, satisfying brunch.

Decor: The restaraunt is small but they still manage to fit seating for about 30 people inside and a few tables outside. There is a large display case featuring their fresh, mouth-watering pies and other confections at the register. The walls are decorated in nostalgic, country style wall hangings and knick-knacks, with a rooster and flowers arranged nicely. Two ceiling fans provide a nice breeze and on the walls hang two signs displaying their motto: "Live, laugh, love."

Entrees and Sides: The menu features traditional American breakfast and lunch options, such as pancakes, egg dishes, sandwiches, burgers, salads, etc. The sandwiches have an Italian flair and they offer a variety of sides for breakfast or lunch. The bread is from the La Jolla Bakery and is very soft and fresh. The plates are very large and full of fresh food with a special touch, such as plump fresh blackberries accenting the large fruit side on my breakfast bagel: a soft wheat bagel stuffed with eggs, spinach, tomato, mushroom, cheese and several large slices of soft, ripe avocado.

Janet's also offers a kid's menu and a catering menu of party platters and trays, perfect for an office lunch or to accompany a weekend backyard BBQ.

Service: Fast and with a smile!

Signature Dish: Janet's usually features two or three specials, but their signature side is the homemade macaroni salad, yum!
