The Poway High School senior is the stage manager for the comedy Skin Deep.

The play, which opened last week, will run through March 27 at Poway's Community Theatre's located at 13250 Poway Road.

“I absolutely love it; it’s one of the greatest things that I’ve done,” said Burgess. “The people there are really great and very friendly. It’s a great working environment, very professional.”

Burgess decided to volunteer at the theater for his senior project. When PowPAC staff asked him to be the stage manager in February, Burgess said he “jumped on the job.”

“It’s a fantastic experience,” Burgess said. “I’m definitely learning what it’s like to be in a professional environment, which is a great experience.”

Burgess has been actively involved in the theater program at school as well, working both on stage and off. He has participated in various theater programs since he was in the sixth grade.

“It’s something I love to do—being with all those people and enjoying something that we love to do as a group,” he said. “It’s for the audience as well as for each other.”

After high school graduation, Burgess plans to study theater in college. He also wants to continue to volunteer at PowPAC.

“I would definitely suggest working at PowPAC for anyone else who wants to pursue theater in any way,” he said. “It’s a great place to start.”
