Classic Car Show Helps Drive Fundraiser for Poway’s Future Health Center

When completed, the new health care clinic is expected to see about 7,500 patients within the first year.

Blue skies are expected this weekend, and if you’ve seen the movie Grease you know nothing shines brighter in the sun than a 1948 Studebaker Commander. Just ask Olivia Newton-John at the BBQ and Classic Car Show hosted by The Arbors Assisted Living on Saturday.

OK, she won’t be there―but classic car owner Ken Howell will with his 1976 Studebaker Avanti II and his 2005 Mustang Saleen.

The event is part of an ongoing effort to raise money for the future Martin and Delia Gold Health Center in Poway―a collective effort between The Arbors Assisted Living, Poway’s Neighborhood Healthcare and the Friends of the Martin and Delia Gold Health Center.

“We partnered with Neighborhood Healthcare to help ensure the future health of our children, seniors and others living in our community who are under or uninsured,” says Kira Anthofer-Lopez, executive director at The Arbors Assisted Living.

A total of $600,000 has already been raised toward the estimated $3 million cost. The Health Center―which is expected to treat about 7,500 patients in the Poway and Rancho Bernardo areas within its first year of operation―is a project Anthofer-Lopez says is “near and dear to our hearts.”

“It’s a great opportunity to give back to the community knowing the Health Center will provide affordable and compassionate health care to those in need for generations to come,” she said.

The fundraiser will feature several other classic automobiles, like a 1967 Mustang convertible owned by Powegian Lynn Cassidy, as well as a 1957 Ford Thunderbird and a 1934 Packard Standard 8 Sedan among others. There also will be a performance by the Bayou Brothers.

The event runs from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. on April 28 at The Arbors Assisted Living. Tickets are $20 for adults, $10 for children 12 and under and children 5 and under are free. For more information, call 858-240-2928.
