Chamber Hosts Mixer to Kick Off 50th Annual Poway Days Festival

The mixer, complete with ribbon cutting, a beer and wine garden and live entertainment, runs from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. today.

While 2012 marks the 50th anniversary of the Poway Days Festival, this is a year of firsts for newcomer Buu Huynh.

She says she enjoyed the Street Fair event hosted in the spring, which was like a “crash course” in all things Poway―from tasting local foods to meeting residents and sharing in a “great, family-friendly community event.”

She especially enjoyed the impromptu performance by Cstarproductionz.

“The last event we had a Thriller flash mob that just showed up and started dancing,” said Huynh, who joined the Chamber as its membership services coordinator in March. “That was unexpected. I’m really excited to see what this year is going to be like.”

To start off the Poway Days festivities, the Chamber is hosting a Mixer Kickoff complete with a ribbon cutting by Deputy Mayor Jim Cunningham, a beer and wine garden and live entertainment. The mixer runs from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. today at Old Poway Park.

“We’re bringing all of the different community associations together,” Huynh said of the gathering, which will include the Soroptomist International of Poway, Crystal Gardens, the Boy Scouts, Poway Center for the Performing Arts, the Kiwanis Club and several other organizations.

The Chamber’s Street Fair will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 16, with 150 vendor booths along Midland Road. This year will showcase a beer garden from Lightning Brewery and music from the band Kanan Road, KV and The Blues Academy and Jeffrey Joe. The San Diego Zoo’s “Dr. Zoolittle” will also return.
