30 Under 30 San Diego County Leader No. 23: Christopher Soriano

This 22-year-old author hopes one day to be a foreign correspondent.

Christopher Soriano has a come a long way in his 22 years of existence.

The San Diego State University journalism student is the author of the book Kiss Me in the Rain, contributing writer for The San Diego Union-Tribune and a broadcast writer for KUSI Channel 9.

He is also the recipient of the 2011 Asian American Journalists Association's Ford Foundation Fellowship, something he said is one of his biggest accomplishments.

Though he has a hefty resume already, Soriano has bigger dreams.

"After graduating, I plan to move to Kabul, Afghanistan, and build a career as a foreign correspondent," he said. "This is a city where most foreign correspondents stay to familiarize themselves with the area. Here I plan to build more experience through internships with other reporters and news stations."

Most importantly, he hopes to continue to inspire other people to reach for their dreams through his motivational speaking events.

Advice for young people:

"Be clever and remember that even if the front door is locked and the back door is jammed, the window should be the next option."
