30 Under 30 San Diego County Leader No. 15: Midori Wong

The 24-year-old oversaw the redistricting process for the city of San Diego.

While the city of San Diego's Redistricting Commission saw plenty of media coverage, some may be surprised to know the woman who oversaw the entire process is just 24 years old.

Midori Wong, the chief of staff of the 2010 Redistricting Commission, oversaw the seven-member committee as it worked toward changing district boundaries for one of the largest cities in the U.S.

Needless to say, it's something Wong is proud of.

"My biggest accomplishment is having overseen the adoption of a new city redistricting plan on time, under budget, and with a unanimous vote of the seven member Redistricting Commission," she said. "I am also very proud of our public outreach effort, which resulted in the consistent participation of thousands of city residents to develop a plan effective for the next decade."

Though the work load was heavy, Wong said she has a firm belief in public service.

"I believe that public service should emphasize transparency and responsiveness in government, and get out into the community to encourage civic engagement that results in the implementation of sound, community-driven policy," she said.

Now, Wong hopes to pursue a career in real estate development and to travel as much as possible.
