The Poway Term Limits initiative has a booth at today’s Poway Days Festival street fair. Volunteers will be there to hear your thoughts, answer questions, and gather signatures to get the term limits question on the ballot. Your signature just helps get the issue on the ballot. Then, Poway voters will decide.
This term limit proposition may be the mildest form of term limits for any California city. After a council member has served two terms (8 years), they wait 2 years before running again. This allows others who want to serve the community a chance at election without facing the overwhelming incumbent advantage. And stellar performers already serving will surely continue to be involved, and run for office again when their 2 year time out expires.
Signature gatherers are all volunteers, Poway residents and registered voters. Over the next few weeks, you will see them at community events, in front of stores and going door to door. Thirty two hundred signatures are needed to get this on the ballot.
Please help by signing the petition.
