40-Plus People Arrested in Countywide Warrant Sweep

The sweep took place between 6 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.

1. More than 40 people were arrested Saturday during a warrant sweep within the city of San Diego, the San Diego County Sheriff's Department reported. Between 6 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., the San Diego Sheriff's Department Court Services Bureau-Field Unit, the California Highway Patrol and a regional Fugitive Task Force targeted San Diego's southeastern and mid-city regions to apprehend suspects with misdemeanor and felony warrants, according to Sheriff's Sgt. James Blanton.

2. The Navy Criminal Investigative Service was asking for the public's help Sunday in determining how a former Penthouse model turned up drowned on a restricted piece of Camp Pendleton beach with a broken neck and back. Anneka Vasta, known as Anneka Di Lorenzo in the 1970s, was the 1975 Penthouse Pet of the Year and appeared in the 1979 movie "Caligula," which was co-produced by the late Penthouse publisher Bob Guccione, whom she dated—and successfully sued, The San Diego Union-Tribune reported. Joggers found her body Jan. 4, washed up on the beach where Marines train. An autopsy showed she drowned, but her family and NCIS investigators are now asking for public's help in closing the case. Investigators do not know if she committed suicide or may have met with foul play around New Year's Eve.

3. More than 3,000 runners and walkers are expected to participate Saturay in the 25th annual "Light the Night Against Crime" 5K race at Balboa Park, Crime Stoppers, which is hosting the event, announced. The event is set to begin at 7 p.m. with registration starting two hours earlier at the corner of Park Boulevard and Presidents Way, according to race organizers.
